How to Writing Chinese Characters
write mandarin chinese.
Six Fundamental Strokes:
横 héng = horizontal/across/(horizontal character stroke).
It is a horizontal line with the brush pushed down slightly at either end.
(written from left to right).
Example:
一 yī, one of few characters made with a single stroke.
竖 shù / vertical stroke.
竖 shù=to erect/vertical/vertical stroke (in Chinese characters).
It is a vertical line with the brush pushed down slightly to start and lifted off at the end.
(written from top to bottom).
Example:
ten (10) which is 十 shí.
撇 piě / down stroke to the left / diagonal to bottom left stroke(diagonal left falling strokes) / Left-falling Stroke.
撇 piě=to throw/to cast/left-slanting downward brush stroke (calligraphy)
always starts at the top right and angles down to bottom left as the brush leaves the paper.
(written from top right to bottom left)
Example:
the character for person which is 人 rén.
八 bā = eight
always starts at the top left and angles down to bottom right as the brush leaves the paper.
(written from top left to bottom right)
Example:
the character 人 rén for person.
入 rù = to enter
the brush is dragged slightly to the right and lifted.
(written from top to bottom right or left)
Example:
six (6) which is 六 liù.
太 very
It is an upwards and right darting movement to give a pointed end.
(written from bottom left to top right)
Example:
The character for I is 我 wǒ in mandarin Chinese.
把 bǎ = to grasp
