Noun + Noun
example:

Adjective + Noun
example:

• full moon
• black board
• full color / full colour

Verb + Noun (Gerund)
example:

• swimming pool
• washing machine
• walking stick
• rocking chair

Noun + Verb
example:

• sunrise

example:

Preposition + Noun

Noun + Adjective

Compound nouns can be written three ways:

• A single word:     Haircut, Dropcloth
• Two words:     Rain forest, Ice cream
