Compound and Idiom 1

Compound Noun is consist of:

Noun + Noun
example:
  • bus stop
  • tooth paste
  • egg roll
  • foot ball

Adjective + Noun
example:
  • full moon
  • black board
  • full color / full colour

Verb + Noun (Gerund)
example:
  • swimming pool
  • washing machine
  • walking stick
  • rocking chair
Noun + Verb
example:
  • sunrise
  • hairstyle
 
Verb + Preposition
example:
  • check out
  • check up
Preposition + Noun
  • past lives
  • under world
Noun + Adjective
  • truckful
  • spoonful
Compound nouns can be written three ways:
  • A single word:     Haircut, Dropcloth
  • Two words:     Rain forest, Ice cream
  • Hyphenated:     Self-esteem, Brother-in-law
